Tender Jackfruit Subji (Gujje Palya) | ಗುಜ್ಜೆ (ಎಳೆ ಹಲಸಿನಕಾಯಿ) ಪಲ್ಯ

Tasty side dish for Rice or Chapathi from Tender Jackfruit


Ingredients (ಬೇಕಾಗುವ ಪದಾರ್ಥಗಳು):
1/2 medium sized Tender Raw Jackfruit (Gujje)  |  ಮಧ್ಯಮ ಗಾತ್ರದ ಗುಜ್ಜೆ (ಎಳೆ ಹಲಸಿನಕಾಯಿ)  
1 - 2 tsp Chilly powder  |  ಮೆಣಸಿನ ಹುಡಿ
Lemon sized Jaggery (Optional)  |  ನಿಂಬೆ ಗಾತ್ರದ ಬೆಲ್ಲ (ಬೇಕಿದ್ದರೆ ಮಾತ್ರ)
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder  |  ಅರಶಿನ ಹುಡಿ
Salt to taste  |  ರುಚಿಗೆ ತಕ್ಕಷ್ಟು ಉಪ್ಪು
1/4 cup finely grated Coconut  |  ತುರಿದ ತೆಂಗಿನಕಾಯಿ
2 strands Curry leaves  |  ಕರಿ ಬೇವಿನ ಸೊಪ್ಪು
1 Tbs Black Gram seeds  |  ಉದ್ದಿನಬೇಳೆ
1/2 Tbs Mustard seeds  |  ಸಾಸಿವೆ
1 - 2 broken Red Chillies  |  ಕೆಂಪು ಒಣ ಮೆಣಸಿನ ತುಂಡು
4 - 5 Tbs Coconut Oil  |  ತೆಂಗಿನ ಎಣ್ಣೆ

Recipe (ಮಾಡುವ ವಿಧಾನ):

Apply little oil on your hands and cut them into two halves. Take one half and cut it into medium sized long pieces. Remove the outer skin and inner part of Tender Jackfruit and chop it into small pieces and put it in water as shown in the picture below.

Put them in a pressure cooker, add salt, jaggery, chilly powder, turmeric powder, little amount of water(1/2 cup) and cook.(1 whistle) 

Once the pressure goes off, cook this in medium flame until all the water content gets evaporated. 

Once the water content is almost dried, add grated coconut, mix well and keep the palya in low flame for about 2-3 mins.

Put black gram seeds, mustard seeds, 1-2 red chilly pieces, oil in a pan and heat. Once it starts spluttering, add curry leaves and add it to palya. Mix well before serving. It goes well with Rice, Chapathis.

Tips (ಸಲಹೆ):
 * Apply oil to hands before cutting to reduce sticking of wax 
 * Jackfruit can be refrigerated for abt 3-4 hrs before cutting to reduce the wax in it.

 * ಹೆಚ್ಚುವ ಮೊದಲು ಕೈಗೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಹಚ್ಚುವುದರಿಂದ ಮೇಣ ಕೈಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ಅಂಟಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಿಲ್ಲ 
 * ಹೆಚ್ಚುವ ಮೊದಲು ಹಲಸಿನಕಾಯಿಯನ್ನು ಫ್ರಿಡ್ಜ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇಟ್ಟರೆ (3-4 ಗಂಟೆ) ಮೇಣ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ

Hey veni...gujji tinnadde shreyanashtu varsha aatu (6 yrs)..I luv this palya very much..though I dont add mustard seed while grinding..

Can you alos help with how to cut gujje with kitchen knife at home?

@Unknown, You can use big sharp knife. Apply little oil to knife and then cut and remove the skin and inner part of the tender Raw Jackfruit pieces and cut them into desired sizes for different curries.
