Ingredients:
1 Cup Idli Rava
1/2 cup Black Gram seeds
Salt to taste
Recipe:
Soak black gram seeds in a vessel for about 4-5 hrs. Soak idli rava in water for about an hour. Wash the soaked ingredients properly and keep them aside.
Grind soaked black gram seeds into smooth thick paste by adding sufficient amount of water. Pour this ground batter to a vessel. Drain the water content from soaked idli rava, squeeze it and add it to the vessel conatining black gram seeds batter. Mix them well and keep it in warm place for fermentation for about 10-12 hrs.
Add salt, required amount of water and mix it well. The consistency of the batter should be that of thick milkshake.
Wash Idli holders/cups and fill each of them with 3/4 full of batter. Steam cook Idlis for about 20-30 mins. (Don't put the weight, place one steel glass over the weight stand). Let it cool down a bit before you serve them. Serve them hot with any Sambar, Chutney. The above mentioned ingredients will serve around 10 Idlis.

Veni, Today I prepared Idli, it was tasty but it came out little bit hard, i soaked idli rava only for one hour is it because of that? let me try once again by soaking it 4 to 5 hours???
@ Vani,
Soaking the Idli Rava for about 1-2 hrs would be sufficient... you can try soaking it for about 3-4 hrs.
Also make sure that the Idli Rava and Black Gram seeds are in the ratio 2:1.
Hi Veni, I prepared by soaking Idli Rava for 4 to 5 hours, it came out good, Thank you veni for the nice recipe.
I think you have a typo. Is the water from soaked idli rava or only the idli rava pressed from water that we need to mix with the black gram batter?
@Anonymous,
Yes, it was a typo... Now I have updated the recipe section properly...
