Balekayi(Raw Banana) Tikki / Cutlet

Ingredients:
3 large Raw Bananas / Balekayi (Preferred: Amunda / Manga Balekayi)
1 large Potato
1 large Onion
1/2 - 3/4 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
3/4 - 1 tsp Chilly powder
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1 tsp Chat Masala
1/4 tsp Garam Masala
1/4 tsp Cumin seed powder
1/4 tsp Coriander seed powder
1/2 tsp dry Mango powder / Amchoor powder
1/2 tsp MTR Pav Bhaji Masala
10 - 12 strands of Coriander leaves
8 - 10 strands of Curry leaves
Pinch of Asafoetida powder
Salt to taste
1/4 cup Bread Crumbs or crushed Rusk
1/4 cup Bombay Rava / Semolina
2 tsp All Purpose flour
2 tsp Rice flour
Oil

Recipe:
Put potatoes, raw banana in a pressure cooker, add sufficient amount of water and cook.(1 whistle on high flame and 2-3 whistles in low/medium flame). Once the pressure goes off, immediately take off the potatoes, raw banana from the cooker and keep them aside. 
Once they come to room temperature remove the outer cover and grate them as shown in the picture.
Add little amount of salt and mix them well. Chop the coriander leaves, curry leaves, green chillies, onion into small pieces as shown in the picture below. 

Put 3-4 tsp oil in a thick bottomed vessel/pan and heat. Add ginger garlic paste and fry them for about 1-2 mins in low flame. Add chopped coriander leaves, asafoetida powder, turmeric powder and fry them for about 1-2 mins in low flame. 

Add cumin seed powder, coriander seed powder, garam masala, chilly powder, dry mango powder, Pav bhaji masala, chat masala  and mix them well.

Add grated potato, raw banana and mix them well. 

Fry them for about 2-3 mins in medium/low flame.

Take little amount of prepared masala and pat it to medium thick round shapes as shown in the picture below.

Put bread crumbs, semolina, rice flour, little amount of salt, chilly powder, asafoetida powder, turmeric powder and mix them well and keep it aside.

Put 2 tsp all purpose flour, little amount salt, 1/4 cup of water and mix them well. Dip the prepared patties in this mixture and then roll each patties in this prepared bread crumbs mixture and keep them aside.

Sprinkle 1-2 tsp oil in a pan and heat. Place the patties as shown in the picture below.

Sprinkle/apply little oil on both thesides of patties and cook in medium flame for about 4-5 mins until they turn golden in color as shown in the picture below.


Serve hot along with green mint chutney and tomato ketchup. The above mentioned ingredients will serve 20 Tikkis / Cutlets.

Balekayi (Raw Banana) Rotti

 Ingredients:

5 - 6 cups chopped Banana 
1 cup Rice flour
2 - 3 Red Chillies
1/2 tsp Coriander seeds
Pinch of Asafoetida
1 large Onion
12 - 15 strands of Curry leaves
1/4 inch sized Ginger
1/2 - 3/4 cup grated Coconut
Ghee/Oil
Salt to taste
Banana leaves / Wax paper

Recipe:

Remove the outer fibre of raw banana, and chop into medium thin pieces and put it in a vessel containing water as shown in the picture below.

Put grated coconut, red chillies, curry leaves, ginger, onion, coriander seeds, asafoetida in a mixer and crush them by adding little amount of water as shown in the picture below. Add chopped raw banana and grind then into smooth paste by without adding any water.


Add rice flour, salt and mix them well. The consistency of the dough should be as shown in the picture below.

Take one banana leaf/ Wax paper (For wax paper: put 1 tsp of oil and spread it over the paper). Take handful of dough and spread it over the banana leaf evenly as shown in the picture below.

Heat the Tava(Iron Tava preferred) put the Rotti upside down as shown in the picture below. Cook it for a minute by covering the lid.



Remove the banana leaf and spread 1-2 tsp ghee/oil over the Rotti and cook other side of the Rotti for about 1-2 min in medium/low flame.


Serve hot along with any curry or chutney. The above mentioned ingredients will serve around 10-12 Rottis.
